چکیده

The freezing transition of tensionless fluctuating vesicles is investigated by Monte Carlo siniulations and scaling arguments for a simple tether-and-bead model of fluid membranes. In this model, a freezing transition is induced by reducing the tether length. In the case of planar membranes (with periodic boundary conditions ), the model shows a fiuid~to-crystalline transition at a tether length io 1 (1.53 + 0.01)ao, where ao is the bead diameter. For flexible vesicles with bending rigidities 0.85kBT < ~ < v%kBT, the reduced

Extraction and biological evaluation of Mycobacterium kansasii extracellular vesicles as a vaccine candidate against mycobacterial pulmonary infections

Introduction: Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are bacterial products with diverse biological roles. Like many microorganisms, Mycobacterium kansasii as a nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM), can naturally release EVs. The aim of the present study was the extraction and biological evaluation of M. kansasii as a vaccine candidate against mycobacterial pulmonary infections. Methods: After bacterial cul...

Flexible Foot/Ankle Based on PKM with Force/Torque Sensor for Humanoid Robot

This paper describes the development of a novel humanoid robot foot/ankle based on an orientation Parallel Kinematic Mechanism for intelligent and flexible control. With three identical Universal-Prismatic-Spherical prismatic-actuated limbs and a central Universal-Revolute passive limb, the PKM can perform three degrees of freedom rotation motions. In order to enable the humanoid robot safely t...

Self-assembled vesicles were experimentally observed to form a variety of shapes [1]. However most equilibrium vesicles are spherical. This is not surprising, because spheres are known to minimize not only the surface energy but also the elastic energy of vesicles [2]. In mathematics it has been proven that spheres have the least area to enclose and separate a given volume. The analogous proble...

Bogomol’nyi decomposition for vesicles of arbitrary genus

We apply the Bogomol’nyi technique, which is usually invoked in the study of solitons or models with topological invariants, to the case of elastic energy of vesicles. We show that spontaneous bending contribution caused by any deformation from metastable bending shapes falls in two distinct topological sets: shapes of spherical topology and shapes of non-spherical topology experience respectiv...

Immunogenicity of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli outer membrane vesicles encapsulated in chitosan nanoparticles

Objective(s): Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) is an important cause of diarrheal disease in humans, particularly in children under 5 years and travelers in developing countries. To our knowledge, no vaccine is licensed yet to protect against ETEC infection. Like many Gram-negative pathogens, ETEC can secrete outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). These structures contain various immunogenic vi...
